About Us

Hello everyone, my name is Alex White-Gomez. I’m the creator of Hub Spud—your local guide to everything Idaho. I was born and raised in Boise, Idaho also known as the Land of the Spuds, Spud City, Spudlandia, or more commonly, The City of Trees and the Treasure Valley.

Alex Gomez, the creator of Hub Spud.
Hey, that’s me!

I created Hub Spud to share my knowledge and love of Idaho with others, including those who might be considering traveling or moving to Idaho.

I’m a professional writer, entrepreneur, and a true Idahoan. I previously worked for local businesses like Albertsons, Hot Box Farms LLC, and most recently for serial entrepreneur and multi-business owner Gary Vaynerchuk.

My work has been published on ONE37pm, Yahoo, Yahoo Entertainment, and VoiceHQ.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, writing (BIG surprise), drinking too much coffee, indulging in local cuisines, helping others, and often forgetting things. Uhmm. Where was I?

Anyways, Idaho is more than a home to me—it’s my family. I’ve lived throughout various locations in Idaho and I have family all around the state.

In fact, some of my family has moved from out of town to permanently call Idaho home. Although Idaho is largely known for its potatoes, that doesn’t even begin to justify how truly amazing this state is.

From the majestic Rocky Mountains to the high desert plains, to the lush Idaho Panhandle and the rolling hills of the Snake River Valley, Idaho is full of wonders.

There are numerous outdoor activities to experience, including off-beaten hiking trails, miles of bike paths, several bodies of water for the blazing summer months, and mountains to shred during the blistering-cold winters.

Combine all that with a warm small-town vibe, good people, mouth-watering eats, and several local breweries, and you’ve got yourself a Hub Spud!

I’ve seen and experienced so much of Idaho and I’m excited to share my knowledge and love for this state with you. I want to show the world just how amazing Idaho is, and why it’s such a unique place to visit or move to.

I know people from all over the country who have come to Idaho and fallen in love with the state, and I want to help more people discover its one-off beauty.

If there’s one thing I hope to accomplish with Hub Spud, it’s to encourage you to visit Idaho and see all the wonders for yourself.

Who knows, maybe you’ll want to become a spud just like me? Just remember: Once a spud, always a spud.

If you’re a local—we’ve got something for you too. We cover some of the best local gems to help you enhance your enjoyment as an Idahoan.

Nonetheless, thank you so much for visiting the Hub Spud.

Sincerely,
Alex Gomez (you can call me Mr. Spud)

P.S. And just in case you’re wondering, Idaho really does have a TON of potatoes!

The official Idaho Potato Museum in Blackfoot, Idaho.

According to the Idaho State Department of Agriculture, Idaho grows nearly 1/3 of all U.S. potatoes using more than 300,000 acres of land to produce over 100 million hundredweight (100 lbs) of spuds annually.

Yep! You’re welcome McDonalds.
